The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating and preconstruction efforts for commercial construction projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bids and budgets simultaneously. The Senior Estimator collaborates with project managers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and owners to develop accurate cost estimates that support competitive and profitable project execution.
Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for all phases of commercial construction projects, including conceptual, schematic, design development, and final bid stages.
Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and addenda to ensure comprehensive scope coverage.
Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing and scope completeness.
Develop quantity take-offs for all trades using current software and estimating tools.
Lead pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid reviews.
Analyze historical cost data and market conditions to support budgeting and pricing strategies.
Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to identify constructability, scheduling, and value-engineering opportunities.
Prepare and present estimate summaries, bid proposals, and cost reports to management and clients.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators and support staff.
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, material costs, and construction means and methods.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
8+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction, including design-build, CM at-risk, and competitive bid projects.
Proven experience estimating a variety of commercial projects (e.g., retail, office, healthcare, educational, municipal, or industrial).
Skills & Competencies
Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, OST, Procore, or similar).
Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and subcontractor scopes.
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and communication skills.
High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
Office-based with occasional site visits.
May require extended hours during bid periods.
Regular use of computer, calculator, and standard office equipment.
